The Zombie socks are finished! I actually completed the toe on one sock waiting for the spinning to begin, and finished the other when I got home. Photographic evidence:
This photo shows the stitch pattern a little bit better:
I don't know about you, but I always feel like an idiot taking pictures of my own feet!
Now that the current requisite sock project is done, I had to come up with something to fill the void. As luck would have it, there was another pair of socks waiting in the wings.
A whole year ago (has it been that long?) I was at Golden Gate Fiber Institute where I met Kristine Brooks of Curious Creek Fibers, and we struck a deal. She gave me one of her sample scarves, and I promised in return to knit her a pair of socks, as soon as she provided me with the yarn that she had dyed. She doesn't knit socks, but wanted a pair made from her sock yarn. I've been waiting and waiting, and even contacted her to offer to return the scarf since the yarn did not seem to be coming anytime soon, and she reassured me that she was still planning to send it along. It finally showed up, and now that the Zombies are finished, I'm ready to go. Here is Kristine's sock yarn, divided up and wound into balls:
I will use my standard sock pattern, but there is a twist. She wants them longer than usual - not quite knee socks but more mid-calf. So I'll be doing some shaping on these to make sure they fit nicely. I'm sure I'll enjoy making them, but I'm still dreaming of the day when all the past obligations are done and I can start something new and undoubtedly spectacular.

The zombies look great! I really do need to make a pair to keep.
